about
“…a brave song to record and The Wanted certainly do it justice”—The Rocking Magpie UK
In Natalie's words: "We started playing Wayfaring Stranger almost 8 years ago. Over time this song in particular has taken on a very personal significance. My parents were both in the Canadian Air Force when they met and married, and my brother and I were born on AFB Summerside, PEI. Four months after my birth, my father was killed in a tragic accident on the base, leaving my mother, then 22, alone with two babies.
Many people, when they sing this song, vary who they are going to meet in heaven – father, mother, brother/sister. For me, I always sing father/mother/father, because the one person I most look forward to meeting in the afterlife, is my father, who I never got to know in life. Last summer, my family visited the memorial on the base in Summerside erected in honour of the 9 airmen who lost their lives on active duty on the base, my father included, on the 55th anniversary of his death. At the little ceremony, in tribute, Jeff and I sang Wayfaring Stranger."
lyrics
Wayfaring Stranger
I am a poor wayfaring stranger
Traveling through this world alone
There is no sickness, toil, nor danger
In that fair land to which I’m going
I'm going home to see my father
I'm going home no more to roam
I am just going over Jordan
I am just going over home
I know dark clouds will hover 'oer me
I know my path is rough and steep
But golden fields lie out before me
Where weary eyes, no more will weep
I'm going home to see my mother
She said she'd meet me when I come
I am just going over Jordan
I am just going over home
I'll soon be free of every trial
This form shall rest beneath the sun
I’ll drop the cross of self denial
And enter in that house with god
I'm going home to see my father
I'm going home no more to roam
I am just going over Jordan
I am just going over home

“Beautifully blurring the lines between Folk and AltCountry with that Canadian ‘edge’ and trademarked ‘cool’ that is so
difficult to put into words.”* This is full-throated full-throttle entertainment with edgy licks, infectious rhythms and soaring harmonies— "…performances worthy of The Ryman on a steamy Saturday night.”*
