Richard writes: "For me, there has been and continues to be, an interesting evolution in the band. I was one of 3 co-founders of The Wanted (and I'm the last one standing) around 2003, following the SARS pandemic. There had been about 8 people who had responded to an ad in Now Magazine about getting together to forma Gram Parsons retrospective collective. It was a heavily acoustic gathering. But with the advent of SARS, there were a number who were no longer comfortable getting together (kind of eerily reflective of today).
So a few of us spun off our own little collective to become an acoustic performance band focused on roots and americana music and we called ourselves The Wanted. As personnel changes came and went, the three of us became the core of the band. And the sound of the band evolved too.

I still play an acoustic lap steel guitar, but instead of miking the guitar, I now play through a vintage amplifier so those clean acoustic tones have been replaced by 1950s grit. And Mike Timmins, our producer, has us moving even more in that direction, replacing acoustic bass with electric and adding a stronger rhythm and percussion presence: a much more modern sound, although firmly rooted in traditional roots sensibilities. And with that, the material has become less folky, edgier and with some delivered punch." And our version of Way Down in the Hole, a Tom Waits song, is a good example of that.
