about
"Killer guitars and lyrics.” —MCCFUNK, Spotify
Before the Fall is a “story” song, in the sense that there is a pretty strong narrative element to it. It’s penetrating, topical and a touch apocalyptical. It’s a cry of frustration and anger at things we can't seem to change. The style of the song could be described as idiosyncratic americana— an intersection between styles of fiddle music, Appalachian folk, jazz and blues, and The Wanted cross those genres, borders and traditions all the time. Before the Fall, with its strong melodies and harmonies, pays homage to folk traditions but isn’t at all afraid to reconstruct them.
lyrics
Before the Fall (Jeff Rogers)
Well the rain is a comin’ and there’s gonna be a bad flood
Waters rise, gonna take us all
Some day soon, trouble's gonna be arriving
Pride always comes before the fall
A man called Noah, said he saw it coming
Dark clouds near, time is gonna tell
Thunders rolling, now there's no denying
That the ways of man are bound to fall
Flood is a comin’ and its gonna be a bad one
Waters rise, gonna take us all
Some day soon, trouble's gonna be arriving
Pride always comes before the fall
All the fools and kings are sitting in the palace
They take from the rest, and talk on high
Some day soon the walls will start to crumble
and the pride of a fool will surely die
Flood is a comin’ and its gonna be a bad one
Waters rise, gonna take us all
Some day soon, trouble's gonna be arriving
Pride always comes before the fall
I built my house, down by the river
Its’ all I had, and now its gone
All that's left are memories and ashes
Oh, lord give me strength to carry on
Flood is a comin’ and its gonna be a bad one
Waters rise, gonna take us all
Some day soon, trouble's gonna be arriving
Pride always comes before the fall

“Beautifully blurring the lines between Folk and AltCountry with that Canadian ‘edge’ and trademarked ‘cool’ that is so
difficult to put into words.”* This is full-throated full-throttle entertainment with edgy licks, infectious rhythms and soaring harmonies— "…performances worthy of The Ryman on a steamy Saturday night.”*
